Pura Luhur Uluwatu or Pura Uluwatu is a Balinese sea temple in Uluwatu, south of Kuta, Badung regency. The temple ( pura in Balinese ) is built at the edge ( ulu ) of a 70 meter high cliff or rock ( watu ) projecting into the sea. Luhur Uluwatu temple is rich in traditional historical values. This temple is so incredible, standing on a cliff above the Indian Ocean, a mind blowing sight. Uluwatu is known as a great place to surf and spend time at the beach.

The Uluwatu temple is dedicated to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa in his manifestation as Rudra.Though a small temple was claimed to have existed earlier, the structure was significantly expanded by a Javanese sage, Empu Kuturan in the 11th Century. Another sage from East Java, Dang Hyang Nirartha is credited for constructing the padmasana shrines and it is said that he attained moksha here, an event called ngeluhur ("to go up") locally. This has resulted in the temple's epithet Luhur.

The Uluwatu temple is inhabited by monkeys, who are notorious for snatching visitors' belongings. They can usually be persuaded into trading the items for fruit, although this only encourages them to steal more.

Uluwatu is about one hour drive from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. You can use a taxi from the airport. Or you can go to Denpasar and to find a travel agent or auto rental. Many rentals also provide motorcycles.

There are many Various restaurants and cafes throughout Uluwatu, from cheap food stalls to luxury restaurants. Accommodations are also available from motels, hotels to luxury villas. You'll find better accomodations like starred hotels near resorts.

Naturally, the souvenirs around here are sea-related products, such as items made of seashells and corals. But of course, there are also the modern kind of merchandises, such as T-shirts.

 Kecak dance is the most popular show at Luhur Uluwatu temple and is always full of spectators every day started at 18.00. The show is sung and danced without musical instruments. At Uluwatu, the seated outdoor theatre stands on solid rock with a height of many tens of meters, Performances are stage designed in such a way that it has the majestic Indian Ocean as its backdrop and timed for the unmissable,captivating and breathtaking romantic sunset views.

As the sun began to sink, some dancers will wear plaid sarong like a chessboard into the arena and take a position of sitting in a circle on the front row of the bleachers.  It was really a sight, and entertainment for the ears, eyes, and perhaps also for your soul.
